Laughing,

smiling at a questing child

frowning

when they're teenage

growing wild

Show them how they should be

on the make

If they walk the line?

They'll have a stake

Education neatly planned

to keep aloof those in command

and

within their mind

it's no surprise

the things that matter

are their school ties

Things that matter

are in disguise

so who am I to analyse

Except I slept to early dawn

while people died

and people were born

And then I yawned

with thoughts that claim

that every morning is

just the same

But things that matter

are in disguise

I'm growing older

but none more wise

Midnight slumber to early dawn

People dying

and people born

Woke up yawning with thoughts that claim

that every morning is

just the same

Organic matter production line

Long or short

there comes our time

The world is changing before our eyes

but things that matter

are in disguise

Things that matter

are in disguise

new born baby always cries

and it always takes a while

before they take a chance and smile

All the way to puberty

they rely on you and me

to re-assure them so they'll realise

that things that matter

are not in disguise

To get ahead, we run or chase

no wonder we're the human race

but who can say

just who has won?

or who has fired the starting gun

Teach our children

what we think should be

what our corporations want to see

The world is changing before our eyes

but things that matter

are in disguise
